MHL Interstate Workgroup

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.”
— Margaret Mead

The MHLC has launched the first-of-its-kind MHL Interstate Workgroup (MHL-IW) to facilitate connections and collaboration between states as they navigate how to successfully integrate mental health literacy into their communities.

Who?

Up to three representatives for each state may be invited to the workgroup. Many states still have openings for representation. Individuals should be leaders from state, local, and community organizations who are invested in the successful integration of MHL in their state. They should be open to collaboration and networking opportunities.

What?

The workgroup is laser-focused on implementing mental health literacy. This may include policy guidelines, strategies for advocacy, effective MHL content options, shared opportunities for research and evaluation, best practices, and a safe place for problem-solving.

Launch of the MHL-IW

We launched the workgroup at the MHLC Annual Meeting - a pre-conference session of the 2024 Conference on Advancing School Mental Health in Orlando, FL, on December 4th, 2024.

Our first virtual convening was held February 11th, 2025, with representatives from 40 states in attendance. Subsequent meetings will be virtual and occur 4-6 times each year. Additional collaborations among various work group members will be encouraged.
